What is high purity graphite?

High purity graphite has the advantages of high strength, good thermal shock resistance, high temperature resistance, oxidation resistance, small resistance coefficient, corrosion resistance, easy to precision machining and so on. It is an ideal inorganic non-metallic material. It is used for manufacturing electric heating element, structural casting mold, crucible boat dish for smelting high-purity metal, heater for single crystal furnace, graphite for EDM, sintering mold, anode for electronic tube, metal coating, graphite crucible for semiconductor technology, graphite anode and grid for emission electronic tube, thyratron and mercury arc rectifier, etc.




Special properties of high purity graphite:




1. High temperature resistant type: the melting point of graphite is 3850 ± 50 ℃, and the boiling point is 4250 ℃. Even if it is burned by ultra-high temperature arc, the weight loss is very small, and the coefficient of thermal expansion is very small. The strength of graphite increases with the increase of temperature. At 2000 ℃, the strength of graphite doubles.




2. Conductivity and thermal conductivity: the conductivity of graphite is 100 times higher than that of non-metallic ores. The thermal conductivity is higher than that of steel, iron, lead and other metal materials. The thermal conductivity decreases with the increase of temperature, and even at extremely high temperature, graphite becomes an insulator. Graphite can conduct electricity because each carbon atom in graphite forms only three covalent bonds with other carbon atoms, and each carbon atom still retains one free electron to transmit electric charge.




3. Lubricity: the lubricity of graphite depends on the size of graphite scale. The larger the scale, the smaller the friction coefficient and the better the lubricity.




4. Chemical stability: graphite has good chemical stability at room temperature, and can resist the corrosion of acid, alkali and organic solvent.




5. Plasticity: graphite has good toughness and can be milled into thin sheets.




6. Thermal shock resistance: graphite can withstand the drastic change of temperature without damage when it is used at normal temperature. When the temperature changes abruptly, the volume of graphite changes little without cracks.
